PWSA contractors located the break on the approximately 100 year-old 60-inch water main connecting the Aspinwall water treatment plant to the Lanpher reservoir. Initial investigations revealed that the break is approximately 8-feet long and located on the bottom of the main. This afternoon, contractors are continuing to excavate the site to prepare to replace the impacted segment of the pipe. PWSA estimates the replacement work could take up to two months to complete and will cost approximately $400,000.
The Authority is coordinating the construction work with the Borough of Etna. Parker Street between Washington Street to Hill Street in Etna will remain restricted to local access only. No impact to water service or water quality is anticipated during the repair work. PWSA will continue to provide updates to the public throughout the repair process until completion.
