About United for Infrastructure 2021

United for Infrastructure 2021 is a week-long event spanning from May 10-14 that advocates for better infrastructure policy and greater investment from all levels of government. The country has several intersecting challenges it needs to address simultaneously: ending the COVID pandemic, rebuilding the American economy, mitigating and adapting to climate change, and making our communities better for everyone. Infrastructure is key to addressing each of those challenges.

This year’s theme, Lead with Infrastructure, highlights the investments, policies, and reforms that are urgently needed to keep people safe, to make our families healthier, our communities more resilient and equitable, to make jobs more prosperous, and our economy secure. It is time for leaders in Congress and the administration to prioritize infrastructure. It is time to demonstrate the leadership the country needs. Across the country, businesses, labor organizations, and elected officials will come together to spread the message that the nation must work together to #LeadWithInfrastructure

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority is proud to participate in this national event and we are excited to share information about our infrastructure needs, projects, and achievements with our customers. Please join us for our special week-long events, and learn how we are advancing “once in a generation” projects to modernize Pittsburgh’s water infrastructure.

United for Infrastructure 2020

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) hosted two virtual events during United for Infrastructure Week 2020 that provided the Pittsburgh community with an opportunity to learn more about the improvements we are making to our water infrastructure.

Our Water Future Panel Discussion

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority facilitated a high-level discussion about the future of our water infrastructure for United for Infrastructure 2020 on Thursday, September 17.

Will Pickering, Executive Director; Jen Presutti, Deputy Executive Director; and Barry King, Director of Engineering and Construction discussed the critical water projects we will construct over the next few years. This discussion was an opportunity to learn about the significance of the projects and the steps we are taking to modernize our water infrastructure. Participants learned about the engineering techniques behind these improvements, how they will strengthen our overall system and ensure the delivery of safe and reliable water services. Brian K. Jensen, Ph.D. of the Allegheny Conference moderated the discussion.

Virtual Facility Tour of the Microfiltration Plant (MFP)

To close out United for Infrastructure Week, PWSA orchestrated a virtual tour of the Microfiltration Plant in Highland Park on Monday, September 21. Viewers tuned in to our Facebook page for this fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the plant and its recent restoration. Project Manager, Marc Frangipani guided us through the plant to discuss its purpose in the overall treatment process, highlight the technology that is used to treat water and automate the plant, and introduce the operators and technicians that keep it running.
