This project - part of the Water Reliability Plan - will construct a new pumping station that will maintain water pressure throughout our water service area for decades to come.
Progress & Status
Project design is complete, construction contracts have been awarded and activities will begin in fall 2025.
The Bruecken Pump Station was built in the 1930s and serves the Highland Park Reservoir system. It is one of the few locations in the city where water is pumped, as much of the distribution system operates on gravity. Pittsburgh Water will de-commission the existing pump station and build a new facility on the premises.
Work on this project will involve:
- Designing and building new facility and associated structures, old pump station will remain in place.
- Constructing new building that will house pumping equipment, original building will be used for other Pittsburgh Water operations.
- Replacing perimeter fencing.
- Re-organizing materials that are stored on property.
The design of the project is 90% complete. Submittals are being reviewed by Pittsburgh Water. Permitting is in progress.
Pittsburgh Water presented design plans at the Highland Park Community Council on January 20th. You can view the presentation here.
