Pittsburgh Water Employees Raise Nearly $5,000 for Hardship Grant Program

The spirit of generosity was in full bloom this April as Pittsburgh Water employees came together for the first “Spring into Giving” fundraiser. From April 3-25, Pittsburgh Water launched a charitable initiative that raised nearly $5,000 from employee donations to support our most vulnerable customers through the Hardship Grant Program.

Creative and Heartwarming Efforts

To make giving even more fun and seasonal, Pittsburgh Water employees were given the opportunity to send Bunny-Grams, festive bunny-themed bags filled with sweets, to their colleagues as an incentive for donations. For every $5 donated, employees could choose a playful template, add a custom message, and brighten a coworker’s day with a bag of sweet treats. Over the course of the fundraiser, more than 300 Bunny-Grams were hand-delivered across facilities at Pittsburgh Water, spreading joy and building camaraderie between departments.

The energy and generosity of our employees exceeded the initial Spring into Giving fundraiser goals, surpassing the original target of $4,200 and reaching nearly $5,000 in donations! This achievement reinforces Pittsburgh Water’s commitment to delivering quality and affordable water services to every member in our service area.

About the Hardship Grant Program

Since 2018, the Hardship Grant Program has helped more than 2,800 Pittsburgh households maintain essential water services. Established to provide income-eligible customers with annual cash assistance, the program offers direct financial support in the form of a credit towards Pittsburgh Water bills.

Eligible customers with a gross household income that is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level can receive two separate annual grants for up to $450 each for both water and sewer conveyance charges.

To date, over $1,025,000 has been distributed, with an average household grant of $366, ensuring neighbors in need receive the support necessary to maintain access to vital water services.
