Volunteering opportunities give our employees the chance to connect with coworkers outside of the usual day-to-day work context, engage with the neighbors we serve, and give back to our communities in ways that align with our mission: to support our region by protecting public health and the environment through the delivery of safe and reliable water services.
In partnership with local nonprofit Allegheny CleanWays (ACW), Pittsburgh Water has organized or participated in a variety of volunteering events focused on cleaning up litter and refuse in our communities over the years.
Recently, a team of volunteers from Pittsburgh Water, ACW, and the local community – many joined by their faithful dogs! – picked up 162 pounds of litter in Polish Hill as part of ACW’s GrateKeepers program. GrateKeepers is a stewardship program that empowers residents to adopt and regularly maintain a nearby storm grate, which promotes cleaner stormwater drains and helps reduce localized flooding.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this fun cleanup event. Without a doubt, your efforts helped to maintain healthy and beautiful outdoor spaces, all while addressing issues like litter and debris buildup that can impact our sewer infrastructure and local waterways.
