Pittsburgh, PA – Effective today, the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority has rebranded as Pittsburgh Water. This simplified, holistic name and brand signals the culmination of several years of progress within the organization in the areas of water quality, infrastructure reliability, sustainability, and one of the nation’s foremost lead service line replacement programs.
The new name better reflects the interconnected nature behind Pittsburgh Water’s management of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services throughout the Pittsburgh area. Safely and reliably managing the flow of drinking water to our taps and wastewater and stormwater through our sewers requires a measured, unified approach, and that’s been a key influence of the Pittsburgh Water brand.
“It’s my hope that this renewed and clarified identity presents an opportunity for Pittsburgh Water to foster more meaningful connections with our customers and a better understanding of the life-essential services we provide,” said Will Pickering, CEO of Pittsburgh Water.
In recent years, Pittsburgh Water has placed a renewed emphasis on its responsibility to protect public health, maintain high environmental and ethical standards, and modernize aging water infrastructure throughout their service area as swiftly and efficiently as possible. This mission includes an aggressive lead service line replacement program that’s currently on track to reach every residential customer by 2027 – years ahead of the recent national mandate.
“As Pittsburgh Water, we’re moving forward with a clear vision to transform Pittsburgh’s water system,” Pickering said. “We are truly proud to be leading the nation when it comes to our progress in lead service line replacements, and our ambitious Water Reliability Plan includes historic capital investments to upgrade our infrastructure and modernize our water distribution system, providing our customers with more secure and reliable water services for decades to come.”
In addition to the steps Pittsburgh Water continues to take in upgrading and modernizing their systems and services, the organization also expresses a commitment to making water services as affordable and accessible as possible. “We have a team specifically dedicated to enrolling eligible customers in our set of Customer Assistance Programs, as we consistently work to expand eligibility and extend access to the critical water services we provide,” Pickering added.
Pittsburgh Water remains a publicly owned and managed utility. Though it operates independently, Pittsburgh Water is a municipal authority of the City of Pittsburgh, governed by a Board of Directors nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. As always, the organization retains its responsibility of stewardship over essential water services, and its duty to strategically invest ratepayer dollars back into the water systems Pittsburgh communities rely on.
