Looking to the future as Pittsburgh Water

Our rebrand highlights our focus on reliability, water quality, sustainability, lead lines removals, and much more.

The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority has officially rebranded as Pittsburgh Water, and we know you likely have some questions.

“Why now?” “Why Pittsburgh Water?” “Is anything changing for me?” Well, we have those answers and much more!

First and foremost, Pittsburgh Water remains a publicly owned and managed utility. Though we operate independently, we're considered a municipal authority of the City of Pittsburgh, governed by a Board of Directors who are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by Pittsburgh City Council. Rest assured, our focus is still on you – our customers – and on our responsibility of stewardship over essential water services and our duty to strategically invest ratepayer dollars back into the water systems you rely on.

Over the past several years, we've placed a renewed emphasis on our role protecting public health, maintaining high environmental and ethical standards, and modernizing aging water infrastructure throughout our service area as swiftly and efficiently as possible.

This includes our ambitious Water Reliability Plan and an aggressive Lead Service Line Replacement Program, which is currently on track to reach every residential customer by 2027 – years ahead of the recent national mandate.

Additionally, our PGH2O Cares team has made great strides in building awareness and increasing enrollment in our set of Customer Assistance Programs to ratepayers who meet our recently expanded eligibility requirements. In this way, we’ve reaffirmed our commitment to making life-critical water services more accessible and reliable in every corner of our community.

Given this progress, we felt this was a great time to invite the Pittsburgh community to reacquaint themselves with Pittsburgh Water.

We chose the name Pittsburgh Water after surveying customers and seeking input about their perception of our name, level of satisfaction, and the improvements most important to them. This simplified name better reflects the interconnected nature behind our management of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services throughout the Pittsburgh area. Safely and reliably managing the flow of drinking water to your taps and wastewater and stormwater through our sewers requires a measured, unified approach, and that’s been a key influence of the Pittsburgh Water brand.

The holistic nature of the name also draws from the One Water concept of water management. One Water refers to an integrated planning and implementation approach to managing finite water resources for long-term resilience and reliability, meeting both community and ecosystem needs. As opposed to managing various water sources and disposal systems separately, One Water emphasizes integrating water and land resources for an all-inclusive planning approach to water management. We keep these ideals in mind throughout our ongoing infrastructure modernization, sewer separation, and stormwater management projects.

As Pittsburgh Water, we're moving forward with a clear vision to transform Pittsburgh’s water system, with a modern infrastructure that's poised to deliver more secure and reliable water services for decades to come.
